What do we mean by STEM pathways?

"STEM pathways" at LMSC are structured routes through GCSEs and A Levels (and selected BTEC programmes) that keep doors open to degrees and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and related fields.

For many students, the challenge is not just choosing individual subjects, but understanding how those choices fit together over time. We help you plan a coherent pathway — from pre-16 or GCSE level, into A Level or Level 3 study, and onwards to university or professional training.

Our approach helps you:

  • Align subject choices with future degree goals

  • Balance ambition with realistic, sustainable workload

  • Understand typical British entry requirements for STEM degrees

GCSE curriculum and pre-16 preparation

For students who are still working towards GCSEs or need to improve prior results, we offer routes that prepare you for STEM-focused A Level study. Our goal is to ensure you have secure foundations in the core subjects that most British A Level programmes — and universities — expect.

Core GCSEs for STEM

  • Mathematics
  • Combined Science or separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics)
  • English Language (and sometimes English Literature)

These subjects are essential for most STEM pathways.

Optional GCSE subjects

Depending on your situation, you might also study subjects such as Computer Science, Business or a language. We'll help you decide which options add value for your future goals.

GCSE retake and booster programmes

For students who need to improve grades in key GCSEs (especially Maths, English and Science), we offer focused support and structured revision programmes, including online options.

A Level STEM curriculum

Our A Level curriculum is built around core STEM subjects and related disciplines that are highly valued by British universities. Most students choose three A Levels, and we help you put together combinations that support your ambitions.
